Now, on something outside an extremely accurate rifle, no one will notice this, but from a mechanical standpoint, a 90 degree crown is superior. With that being the case, when the bullet uncorks on an angled crown, every groove and land ends at a slightly different point for the bullet, in effect being a crooked crown. The reason for a 90 degree crown is that in most barrels, and this even goes for great barrels like Kriegers and Bartleins, the grooves and lands are of unequal height/depth. It wasn't done with much care wherever it came from, so even a little bit of attention gives a remarkable improvement. The key is getting the crown perpendicular at the bore, and then not doing anything dumb at the end of the lands at the intersection. And that's usually why recrowning improves accuracy. Take a look at benchrest rifles, I think you'll hunt a long time for anything but a 90 degree crown. What about 10 degree or 12 degree crowns? So do 45 degree crowns on the IZHMASH toggle bolt rimfire rifles. 11 degrees and why re-invent the wheel ?11 degrees is reinventing the wheel and without a sound reason other than "it works".
